SIL
Suitable Toxic Gas Detection
In
support of its commitment to workplace safety, General Monitors is pleased
to announce that its TS4000 and TS400 Toxic Gas Detector product lines
are now both rated SIL 2 suitable. Process and plant engineers in hazardous
industries now have a complete suite of toxic gas, combustible gas and
flame monitoring products available from General Monitors that are rated
SIL 2 or 3 suitable.
The global importance of SIL (Safety Integrity Levels) has grown substantially in the oil/gas, petrochemical and other process industries over the last 10 years. However, for many end users, systems integrators, and product vendors, SIL is still a somewhat ambiguous concept that often is misinterpreted and incorrectly implemented. In order to fully understand SIL and its implications, it is important to grasp the overarching concept known as Functional Safety, and how it applies to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) within the process industries. To promote
a better understanding of SIL and SIS, General Monitors has developed
a special online
SIL Resource Center. The resource center contains our
Statement of SIL Conformity, a list of General Monitors SIL Suitable
Products, SIL FAQs, Common SIL Myths, SIL Technical Articles and a list
of useful SIL links. The TS4000 Detector provides complete status and control capability in the control room. Additionally, the interface module’s galvanically-isolated, intrinsically-safe design supports sensor field replacement without special tools or hot work permits. All electronics are contained within an explosion-proof housing so that sensor information can be processed at the sensor site. Easy to install, the TS4000 features one-person calibration and can virtually self-calibrate by activating a magnetic switch and applying gas. Process engineers who need to protect people and equipment will find the TS4000 Toxic Gas Detector ideal for chemical, oil and gas, water and wastewater treatment, pulp and paper, and other hazardous environments. Additional applications include public utilities, refineries, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage. The TS4000
monitors a variety of toxic gases in the parts per million (ppm) range,
including ammonia, carbon monoxide, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hydrogen
chloride, hydrogen sulfide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, oxygen,
ozone, and sulfur dioxide. The system displays gas concentrations up
to 500 ppm, fault codes for troubleshooting, prompts when calibration
is needed, and provides complete status to the user. Additionally, the
TS4000 simplifies operation and maintenance and reduces downtime by
indicating remaining sensor life. Nitrogen
